JUNIOR – orthoses for children and young people

Orthoses for children and young people are a matter truly dear to us. Injuries and impairment in children always pose a challenge for the parents and the family as well. They often have to make decisions for their children without any prior medical knowledge. Injuries and impairments can have a significant influence on the childhood of patients and impact on their further path of life. Therefore, it is crucial to assess when therapy should start as the chances of achieving a successful therapy result are highest at a young age.
The term neuroplasticity or neuronal plasticity describes changes in the central nervous system as an adaptation mechanism. Here one can also speak of the ability to learn. The neuroplasticity of the brain is particularly high in children. This explains how children can acquire language and knowledge so quickly. However, it also shows that therapeutic measures can be particularly effective in children. With regard to functional rehabilitation, the increased neuroplasticity in children offers good opportunities to train motor processes with suitable orthoses. It is also relevant here to provide appropriate support during growth spurts, so that development steps can be maintained even with increasing weight and longer limbs.

Orthoses for children to support therapy

Our CDS® orthoses for children and adolescents are based on the principle of dynamic redression. The spring-based CDS® hinges stretch muscles in a controlled and therefore safe manner. Unlike static whining, our CDS® orthoses work dynamically via controllable spring force, which can be adapted to the course of treatment of the patient.

The spring mechanism stretches the shortened structures while allowing movement. This promotes blood circulation in the tissue and prevents new contractures. In addition, the muscle can experience spasms, which is a decisive advantage, especially in neurological indications. After the spasm, the muscle is gently guided back into relaxation.
Particularly in pediatrics, the CDS® hinges offer the advantage that they are adjustable and allow movement in the opposite direction. This significantly increases compliance, especially in children.

The CDS® hinges can support the therapists in their work. Regular wearing of a CDS® orthoses can, for example, stabilize the therapy result until the next unit or prepare for therapy prior to it.

The CDS® Lock hinge supports standing therapy. In children, the CDS® knee/ankle combination orthosis can help to stabilize their stance and maintain the therapy result, especially after growth spurts.

Orthoses for children and young people for functional support

As part of a functional rehabilitation, our orthoses can also be used to support and stabilize functionality. The stabilizing effect of our devices enables patients to carry out movement with guidance. A certain level of safety can be restored by fitting an orthosis. Here the technicians have to clarify to what extent safe use can be guaranteed.
